Campbell River has three kinds of public schools.

1. Elementary Schools – Kindergarten to Grade 5 (ages 5 to 10 years), 100 to 400 students

2. Middle Schools – Grades 6 to 8 (ages 11 to 13 years), 400 to 600 students

3. Secondary Schools – Grades 9 to 12 (ages 14 to 18 years), 700 to 850 students

We have two Secondary Schools: Carihi Secondary School and Timberline Secondary School.

Our high schools are known for quality academic, Sports Academies, and Career Opportunities in addition to electives in media, technology, fine arts, leadership and entrepreneurship.

International students make up a small portion of the schools' student body so they have the chance to immerse themselves in English and make Canadian friends. Our small program permits flexible programming to meet each student's need. English Language Learning courses are offered to students who require this service. Our homestay contractor and program coordinator meet with students regularly to verify their safety, their academic growth and personal success to ensure an excellent educational experience. Students must maintain a minimum "C-" average. Academic interventions will occur if needed.

There are four classes per day on a semester system. The first semester runs from September to January, while second semester goes from February to June. Students have each course for five months and the same classes every day of the week. The end of each semester could include special assignments, exams, and/or final projects.
